We showed Jane Holloway’s Quiché Translations in Cantor Fitzgerald Thursday night during “They broke it.  Let them fix it.”  But she was unable to make the event.  So Jane, Hannah, and John looked at her work together the following night.

On one side of the screen we hear sharp bursts of fluttered consonants.  On the other, the “explanation” for these sounds: “When she heard the gun she said it sounded like pumpkin seeds toasting.”  Jane explained that the clips on the two sides of the hanging screen mean to dramatize the gap between hearing Louisa’s testimony one day, and coming to understand it much later.  And only through translation.
