The Ardmore Cairn

“This rock pile on a vacant lot at the corner of Lancaster Ave and Ardmore Ave in Ardmore gets stacked and knocked down regularly. It’s all guerrilla action, much of it done by day, and a lot more by night. There are lots of participants, and we think Richard Long would approve.” —Libby Rosof & Roberta Fallon, “The 2012 Liberta Awards”

Since the fall of 2011, John Muse, following the lead of Wynnewood PA resident Ed Basner and a few others, has built and tended a few small cairns, one at the corner of Ardmore and Lancaster Avenues in Ardmore, PA, one between the lots separating the IHOP and Tired Hands Brewery, and another at the Bryn Mawr Train Station. Muse has built, rebuilt, and documented the vicissitudes of these and other cairns.

The Facebook page for the Ardmore Cairn is a work-in-progress: pictures, clips, journal entries, and other relevant materials are added frequently.

Clips can be found on the Ardmore Cairn YouTube playlist.
