Spun Smoke, May 8 - June 27, 2015
Not six inches from her studio window, Jeanne Finley watched and recorded a pair of hummingbirds build their nest in a red bougainvillea. Finley observed the birds for five to six weeks, from nest to incubation to fledging, lyrically composing the video Protocol. Intercut between feedings, learning to fly, and the empty nest, a fog-shrouded radar tower rotates endlessly, receiving invisible signals. This colorless, mechanical structure was shot at the same time only a few miles away in San Francisco costal fog.
